Kids’ Tennis Day and Tennis World Open Day

If you’re running out of things to entertain the kids with these summer holidays, then make sure you head down to Melbourne Park on Saturday January the 15th for the inaugural 2011 Kids’ Tennis Day which is bound to be a hit. Based on the extremely popular Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day at the US Open, The Australian Open is putting on their own event to attract newcomers to the sport of tennis whilst giving something new to its established fans.

It kicks off at 9.30am with junior tennis players and a heap of tennis related activities. Kids can pose with the Australian Open trophies, get their faces painted, try out their tennis skills, and watched expert racquet stringers demonstrate how they string a racquet for the world’s best. At 11am, the Celebrity Cup Challenge pits the celebrities of the screen against those of the court. Kids will have an opportunity to meet the stars after the match and get their autographs.

If you’re keen to check out some live tennis, the Australian Open qualifying tournament will be on in its end stages. Those that come out on top will have earned the right to play in the Australian Open so it is well worth checking out. Get a head start on Melbourne’s summer of tennis and check out Kids’ Day.

Entry is free with a gold coin donation going to the Australian Tennis Foundation. If you would like to give tennis a go yourself, Tennis World is holding open days in early February.
