While our lives may seem more comfortable than they were 100 years ago, the stress continues to affect our lives in many ways. We are always surrounded by deadlines, crowded places, noise, and it seems that the world never sleeps. Especially if you live in a big city. That is why we need to disconnect sometimes. We need to take a break from everything and enjoy some peace and quiet. You can accomplish that through travelling.
Off you go!
It is a myth that only people who have loads of money can take a break and travel. There is such thing as traveling on a budget. It may not be ideal, but it is better than nothing. A decent hotel somewhere near a beach will not bankrupt you. Just go to a remote place with a good book. And leave your devices at home. Technology makes it easy for your stress to follow you around. You need to improve the quality of life, and some alone time will do precisely that.
If books are not your thing, you can go exploring. And that doesn’t mean mountains and jungles. Not necessarily. Just take a backpack, a camera, a bottle of water, and go see a new city. Someplace you have never been before. You would be surprised how many hidden treasures you can find in a new place. Just walk around and take a closer look at what surrounds you. It may change your perspective on things, and it may teach you to find joy in the little things. It will do a great deal of good. Trust me.
Connect with people…face to face
The art of conversation is dying. As sad as that may seem, you can bring it back. Talking to strangers may have been a bad thing when you were a child, but when you are a grown up used to talking over text or apps, actually communicating and connecting with someone may act as a wake-up call. Yes, it is a lot of pressure on a simple conversation, but you would be surprised. It is a beautiful thing to have a talk with someone you do not know, learn their story, and put things into perspective.
If you can, travel far away
If you have some money tucked away somewhere, you should go far away. It is almost unbelievable how much it changes you. Yes, the plane ride alone may take more than you are used to, but the overall experience is meant to bring you to a new level of relaxation. To prove my point, I did a similar thing a year ago. I went to Cambodia to babysit elephants and walk dogs. You can do the same in the Kulen Prum Tep Wildlife Sanctuary. You can volunteer, and you will be given accommodation in one of their rooms. I stayed in the dog area, which is way better than you can imagine. Especially if you like dogs. The experience was unforgettable. The peace those people have and the satisfaction are unbelievable.
It is a simple trip, and it did not require much money. But what it leaves behind in your mind and soul is priceless. That was the moment when I realised that traveling can help you cope with your busy lifestyle.
If you want such an experience, you should know that it is not difficult to plan. We have electronic visas now. At least technology can help you with that. A passport is easy to get. Packing a bag takes you an hour. You just need some willpower and some time. That plus travelling makes an excellent recipe for an improved quality of life.
