The Altitude at GPO

In the historic surrounds of Melbourne’s GPO yesterday afternoon, spring arrived. The sun beamed through the ceiling’s glass panels and the archways and columns came to life. Filled with flowers, the entire first level had an angelic, ethereal feel. Our MC and performer for the afternoon, ‘Paris’, sang old time tunes in a top hat and crooned his way around the red carpet. And then came the clothes. Floating maxi dresses and layered minis, delicate headpieces and bold colours. This spring it appears that more than ever purples, oranges, corals, pinks and reds will take centre stage. Set on a palette of beiges, blacks, whites and muted greens, this spring it’s all about colour.

Feminine styles reigned, mixed with tailored jackets and brogues. For men, tailored suits in greys and classic black were the go, and skinny jeans are still hot. The parade featured designs by an array of incredibly talented Australian designers; Wayne Cooper, Manning Cartell, Gorman, Fat, Hussy & Madame Marie, Belinda, Arthur Galan, Akira, Nicolangela, Lisa Ho and Leona Edmiston. Accessories were by Georg Jensen, Mandarina Duck, Mimco, Occhio, Pandora and Secrets Shh. Shoes were from Camper, Mimco and Nude Footwer and the gorgeous headwear was by Paris Kyne – Master Milliner.
