Melbourne may be getting chillier but ArtPlay is just beginning to warm up for winter with a new program of inspiring activities for children.
Chair of Arts and Culture at the City of Melbourne, Councillor Rohan Leppert said ArtPlay’s programming allows children to immerse themselves in the arts from a young age.
“ArtPlay programs are led by experienced professional practitioners, artists and companies.
“The programming at ArtPlay gives children the opportunity to learn and be creative in a state-of- the-art inspiring, environment, ” said Cr Leppert.
These school holidays, children can make giant bubbles in Floating Worlds, or loose themselves in drawing with TAPE IT!, a collaborative, room-size, expanded drawing made of lines of colourful electrical tape.
During Open House Melbourne, ArtPlay will be All Mapped Out as children get to create a giant map of their own imagination. There’ll be all sorts of map-related activities for participants to try out including contributing to a giant map and creating their own street view.
In August, families are invited to The Big Family Sing. Led by musical group All Day Fritz, this group singing experience will get families exploring the basics of group and harmony singing in a playful, social and inclusive atmosphere.
A special Treehouse exhibition called Bark! Bark! Bark, unveils artist Terry Denton’s illustrations, prints and plans from the series created with Andy Griffiths. Presented in partnership with the Melbourne Writers Festival, Terry has painted a mammoth and magnificent mural on the ArtPlay gallery wall where participants can add their own mark.
Environmental artists Avis Gardner and Liz Walker return to ArtPlay with Shelter, where participants use their imagination to build a shelter using a collection of found and recycled materials.
From the creator of This Baby Life, comes Sally Chance’s new show for 4 to 18 month olds. Presented by two dancers and a musician, Nursery was developed through extensive research into ways babies and adults tune into one another. The performance offers an immersive experience of dance and music.
