One thing you soon learn when you’re having a baby is that when it comes to shopping, there’s no shortage of options out there. From bargain outlets to designer boutiques, websites to magazines, there’s a million brands spruiking a zillion products – but how to sift through them all?
I’m towing a very delicate line with my purchases – there’s the practical and necessary and there’s the outrageously gorgeous – and it’s heaven when the two meet. There are things you need, things you want and need, and things you just want.
Below, you’ll find the first list in a series of my favourite baby buys – all Australian owned companies, producing high-quality Australian made products for our little ones.
Bed Toppings
Bed Toppings have only used the finest materials and ethical processes to create their gorgeous sheet sets. Each piece is lovingly made in Australia with finely spun 280 thread count Supercale cotton and printed with eco-safe Oeko-Tex 100 certification ink. The end result? A delightfully soft, well-made sheet that you know is eco-safe for babies, but if none of these work, try a nice gift from Personalized by Kate. Home grown for parents who want a nursery with individual style and tasteful character for their special little bundle.
Name Your Dummy
Name Your Dummy is the first and only business in Australia to personalise baby dummies (that also comply with Australian Safety Standards). After 12 months of research, Tea and Mai-Britt found a process that imprints your child’s name or other text identification directly into plastic or stainless steel, to make the marking permanent. The name can’t be removed, even through rigorous sterilisation or high-pressure washing.
Safety and hygiene is the main focus of Name Your Dummy. The business only uses quality brand dummies and other products, ensuring that any plastics are free of any dangerous chemicals, particularly BPA – a key component of polycarbonate plastic. Their products are all lead and nickel-free, and all meet Australian Standards. Similarly, the personalising process doesn’t release any chemicals or toxins back into the plastic products, making them completely safe for babies and older children.
The Slumber Pod
Designed to help prevent reflux and a flathead in babies, this gorgeous slumber pod is safe, secure and comforting for babies. With easy to change seats and portability, this pod is an absolute dream for babies and parents. Not to mention – it’s super cute, to boot.
Iddy Biddy Boo
Offering a boutique selection of personalised gifts – from heat bags to iPod cases to art smocks – Iddy Biddy Boo combines unique styling with practicality. I love.
My Sweet Prints
Original artwork for the home, nursery and the heart, My Sweet Prints offers a gorgeous array of customisable pieces to perfectly compliment any nursery. I’m mad about them all.
Buddha Baby
Buddha Baby was created to provide babies and children with beautiful, bright, fun, comfy and sustainable natural clothing.
With fabrics sourced from a range of natural, organic and renewable sources – including bamboo, milk, soy, organic cotton, and merino wool – Buddha Baby has created a beautiful range of buttery-soft clothing that you (and your little ones) will love.
Natural yarns make safe, breathable, absorbent, and moisture-wicking clothing that is not only lovely to wear now, but will also help to ensure our children inherit a cleaner, greener planet.
It is also important to know exactly what goes next to your baby’s skin. Just as you can read a label at the supermarket to see what you are putting into your kids’ bodies, Buddha Baby gives you a clear picture of the ‘ingredients’ that go into their clothes, and why they think those ingredients are so great.
Naturally beautiful fabrics, naturally comfortable to wear, naturally good your babies and their planet – that’s Buddha Baby.
