COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on our lifestyles – we’re staying in (and we implore you to, as well). Life has changed. Drastically. While it’s not permanent, it’s a big shift, and we’re all feeling it. While you’re doing the right thing (spatial and social distancing + self isolating), we’re updating you with what you need to know about all the things you love. How you can still eat, drink, consume, watch and buy the things that bring you joy. How you can continue to support Australian businesses, artists, creators, makers and more. How you can stay amused, active, educated and entertained at home. How we can all stay connected to the things that make us us.
As we all do our part to stay home and flatten the curve, some of Los Angeles’ best institutions are committed to keeping us entertained and educated from afar! From virtual tours to livestreams and digital archives, institutions like the Aquarium of the Pacific, The GRAMMY Museum and California Science Center all have offerings you can experience from home.
Here’s a snapshot:
The Aquarium of the Pacific is offering the Aquarium Online Academy to bring educational programming as well as fun and entertaining activities to the community. Find both on-demand videos and activities for all ages and a schedule of interactive live programs with educators, from grade-specific virtual classroom sessions to engaging segments with the Pacific Pals puppets.
The California Science Center has launched Stuck at Home Science, a family-friendly space to fight boredom and continue your child’s science learning with easy to follow activities. Stuck at Home Science is designed for families to explore, investigate, and learn together without leaving the house. All activities use common household supplies, and are appropriate for a variety of ages. Beginning March 23, the California Science Center will post a new activity and/or video every weekday. Each week will focus on a new theme.
For car buffs, The Vault at the Petersen Automotive Museum is a bucket list experience – an extraordinary collection of 250 iconic and rare cars from around the world exhibited in a renovated 60,000 square-foot underground space. During the extended hiatus, The Vault is offering Livestreaming Tours led by Collection Manager, Dana Williamson, in addition to featuring Online Education, including Coloring Activities and Build Your Own Racecar. All activities are downloadable to print at home.
Has debuted never-before-released digital Public Programs from their archive, which will feature intimate sit-down interviews with artists and musicians (like BIllie Eilish and Greta Van Vleet!). A new program will be released every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 11:00am PST.
