Last week, Marriott International announced the Australian debut of The Luxury Collection, with the upcoming opening of The Tasman, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Hobart. Slated to open its doors at the end of 2021 in the Tasmanian capital, The Tasman will be the first Australian showcase of this world-renowned brand, a global collection of 110 unique hotels and resorts offering authentic experiences designed to inspire and evoke lasting memories.
Originating in 1906 as an assortment of Europe’s most celebrated and iconic properties, including historical treasures such as the 15th century Gritty Palace in Venice, today The Luxury Collection is a glittering ensemble of the world’s finest properties in more than 30 countries and territories. Each hotel and resort is a unique and cherished expression of its location; a portal to the destination’s indigenous charms and treasures.

Connecting Salamanca Place with an elegant fronting on Murray Street, The Tasman forms part of Parliament Square, a new centre for Hobart in the most enthralling part of the city, just steps from the famous Salamanca Markets, St David’s Park and the vibrant waterfront of Sullivan’s Cove.
The highly anticipated arrival will bring the rich local character of Hobart to life, connecting the city’s pioneering past to the contemporary culture and captivating scenery, where guests are emboldened to explore the epicurean highlights of the city and wilderness of the island.
The Tasman offers a distinct architectural experience that blends the site’s historical legacy with a striking modern vision. Guests have a rare opportunity to experience three eras of design within the 152-room hotel: from walking the history filled hallways of the original 1840s heritage building; admiring the understated luxury of the Art Deco building; or taking in the spectacular views of the Hobart waterfront from the new glass ensconced Pavilion building.
Renowned Tasmanian chef, Massimo Mele will act as Culinary Director at the hotel’s signature restaurant, combining his passion for championing local producers with the generosity and warmth of Italian hospitality. While an intimate and sophisticated cocktail bar hidden within the original sandstone building will offer an old-world bar experience reimagined for modern times, with an inspired cocktail menu celebrating indigenous Tasmanian ingredients.
