A slice of paradise situated in the Mediterranean Sea, the small island of Comino, is characterised by its sprawling white sands and shimmering blue waters. With its heavenly Blue Lagoon inlet considered to have the most beautiful water in the Maltese archipelago, the island is a haven for swimmers, snorkelers and sunbathers (shh!).
Perfect for a sunny day spent relaxing, scuba diving or swimming, Comino’s Blue Lagoon is a large natural pool surrounded by vast limestone cliffs and caves, formerly used by pirates and smugglers as hideouts.
Known as an island of unspoiled wonder, Comino is mostly uninhabited with a minute population of four people and offers a retreat for travellers, free of cars (mostly) and troubles in the world. If you’re lucky you may be able to spot the odd car on your trip, but as island with no tarmacked roads you’ll find Comino is a complete change of pace. Those that visit can’t help but be in awe of the bright white sands under the crystal-clear waters.
Attracting the likes of Madonna and Brad Pitt for work as well as leisure, the island has been used as a filming location for movies such as Troy, The Count of Monte Cristo and Swept Away.
Topdeck’s 12-day Sicily and Malta Explored itinerary includes a full day of four-wheel driving on the neighbouring island of Gozo, and a boat trip to the island of Comino where travellers can snorkel as well as discover hidden pirate treasures and traverse the azure waters of this island paradise.
