Okay, so hopefully by now I have convinced you that participating in the 2017 Winter Track Series is sure to be a good time. Now let’s talk about the rest of Winter cycling. Here are 5 great tips on how to survive the cold, keep those legs looking fab, and performing on the track:
1) Layer Up
The chill in the air feels about one hundred times colder when riding your bike. So it is critical to wear a lot of layers. Layering up with fabrics like merino wool rather than cotton will make a huge difference in warmth and moisture wicking.
2) Hands and Feet
Layering up to keep the core warm is essential, right next to keeping your hands and feet warm. High-quality gloves, socks, and ideally something to put over your cycling shoe will ensure you have feeling in your digits by the time you hit the office.
3) Pack Extra
You know those days when you leave the house in fresh, crisp winter conditions and unknowingly ride straight into a downpour? It has happened to all of us. So don’t forget to pack a change of clothes and extra gear.
4) Hydrate
Dehydration in Winter is a serious problem. Just because the sun isn’t beating down on your face, doesn’t mean you aren’t sweating up a storm. Replenish with water and electrolytes after long rides or even quick commutes for maximum performance.
5) Light Up
With colder temperatures comes earlier sunsets, and darker evenings.
Lighting up your bike is number one is safety when preparing for a Winter commute. Front and back lights and reflective clothing should all be carefully chosen for your commuter safety.
So, ditch the Winter blues and get riding!
It is always a good idea to get some fresh bike repairs between seasons to tune everything up and prep for winter cycling and the track series. Time to gear up, head out, cycling the streets and bust through that comfort zone straight to the Melbourne Track Series!
