In Australia, we are famous for a whole lot of things and some of them are things people travel from all over the world to see and do. Living here, however, it can be easy to take the opportunities for granted and never really get around to doing some of the fantastic stuff right on our doorstep, just as people who live in Paris have often never been up the Eiffel Tower!
If you have been guilty of this, then this summer, why not rectify it by making an effort to experience some of the best watersports? Of course, Australia isn’t the only place in the world to try these, but it is certainly one of the best, so add them to your bucket list and get planning to hit the beach!
Surfing
Surfing is something Australia is known for the world over, with world class surfing beaches that are the envy of people living in the USA and Europe who happen to love the sport. Surfing is a huge part of our sporting culture. However, despite the stereotypes, a lot of young Australians have never tried it. This is partly because it is a fairly difficult thing to get the hang of and a lot of people worry they don’t have the balance to stay on a board for long. Actually, with a decent teacher, almost anyone can learn to surf, and you can also have fun bodyboarding if you don’t yet have the skill to stand on your board and ride the waves. With summer on its way, why not make this the year you become a surfer?
Jetsurfing
We know surfing is fun, and we know jet-skiing is fun, so naturally, this crazy hybrid of the two is absolutely awesome!
Jetsurfing is a relatively new sport, and thanks to pioneering companies creating motorized boards, it is really beginning to catch on with watersports fiends. Jetsurf boards are designed with the same kind of precision engineering used in things like racing motorcycles and sports cars and they can offer a new and exciting way to experience surfing with more speed and more power! While the sport is probably biggest in America right now, the Australian coast in summer is just made for this exhilarating sport!
Diving
Diving is another thing Australia is well known for globally, but again, many of us never get around to actually learning how to do it. Luckily, we have some of the most amazing dive sites in the world and some fantastic diving schools where you can get your open water license quickly and safely. Once you have that, all you need is a dive buddy and some gear and you can spend your weekends exploring the beautiful undersea world around the coast here in Australia.
All of these sports are well worth trying. You may not fall in love with them all, but you are sure to have some fun experiences, and you may well find your new passion!
