From our vibrant art scene, to hidden laneway haunts, to our love affair with the perfectly brewed cup of coffee – there is no other city quite like our Melbourne. Right now, she’s a bit lonely but as our city comes back to life, hundreds of Melburnians have shared their Love Letters to Melbourne.
Paying tribute to our iconic city, Melbourne Central ignited the Love Letters to Melbourne movement, receiving an outpouring of support for the way of life that Melburnians simply pride themselves on and the unique things we love to see and do in the cultural capital of our nation.
Prue Arkeveld, Melbourne Central Senior Marketing Manager said: “What started as a simple call out on Melbourne Central’s Instagram has sparked a heartfelt response. We have been inundated with love letters as lively as our city from poems to personal anecdotes of the everyday delights that makes Melbourne so special to each and every one us.
As one of the world’s most liveable cities, we take great pride in our hometown so it comes as no surprise that with lockdown restrictions easing, Melburnians can’t wait to embrace the hustle and bustle of Melbourne’s colourful concrete arms.”
Sincere messages have come fluttering through to Melbourne Central’s inbox from Melbourne’s biggest fans, describing the city as, “the gateway to many adventures”, and highlighting iconic landmarks, “Seriously missing Melbourne city…the gardens, the galleries, the lanes and arcades” as well as sending in wistful expressions – “Till we meet again, may the city heal and as they say, distance makes the hearts grow fonder.”
Now it’s your turn… What’s on your must do list? What makes our city so special to you? Whether its dining at Melbourne’s culinary hotspots, catching a gig at the Forum, explaining a hook turn to your interstate friends, bar hopping at after work drinks, late night karaoke, exploring the latest art exhibition, shopping up a storm or being amongst the roar of the footy at the MCG… or maybe it’s simply soaking up the energy of our city. Whatever tickles your fancy or pulls on your heart strings, remind Melbourne that you love her. Remind her how you feel and help us all remember how amazing she really is.
Share your Love Letters to Melbourne by sending a DM to @melbournecentral or email lovelettertomelbourne@gpt.com.au. Your love letters will be shared on the Melbourne Central website with plans to bring them to life in centre as our city emerges from hibernation.
