After dealing with my own health issues, I was inspired to launch a premium range of bio-enhanced mushroom powders formulated to improve health and vitality while reducing the signs of ageing.
It really took being diagnosed with celiac disease to fully understand the phrase, ‘you are what you eat’. As much as I resisted taking the tasty gluten ladened products out of my diet, I was hopeful that it would at least make me feel better. After months of altering my diet, some symptoms subsided, but I felt at a loss when I was still experiencing issues such as hormonal imbalance, eczema, swelling and brain fog.
It was at this low point that I stumbled across research about the benefits of medicinal mushrooms. I was so tired of being tired, I was willing to try anything to improve how I was feeling. The Lion’s Mane mushroom, which is known as the mushroom for the brain, was first on my list and it finally cleared that brain fog that is so synonymous with auto-immune conditions. Including the best Lion’s mane supplement in your diet enhances not only memory but also fights against chronic inflammation and prevents ulcers in the stomach. Next, I tried the Reishi mushrooms which worked well to balance out my hormones. Over the next few months, the results were so impressive that tried the Chaga mushroom which is known to reduce inflammation and improve immunity, and the Cordyceps mushrooms which helped give me back that energy I was looking for.
I kept receiving comments and was asked what health kick I was on. That’s when I decided to create TAKe Bio Actives. I wanted to create a product that was easy to add to the everyday diet that would not only help people feel well on the inside but that would ultimately reflect on the outside. I’m also woman in my 40’s and I could see that there are so many collagen and glow powders on the market and I wanted to put it all in one jar. We added therapeutic doses of naturally sourced vitamin B and C which have shown to increase collagen synthesis in your body and reduce oxidative stress. So, this is a great vegan way to stimulate collagen production with the added health benefits from the mushrooms as well.
Medicinal mushrooms have an amazing nutritional profile that can help us meet our daily dietary requirements. For example, they are rich in protein, high in antioxidants and they contain almost all the essential amino acids that we need. But it’s the compounds found in medicinal mushrooms that really set them apart from the typical button mushroom. They contain bio-active compounds that support our immune responses and improve our overall well being by assisting our bodies to perform their function at their optimum. Medicinal Mushrooms are considered adaptogens because they can help support the body’s natural ability to combat stress and fatigue.
The importance of fibre in your diet is proving more and more essential, and the beta glucan polysaccharides found in these mushrooms are a great form of soluble fibre. They help us to feel fuller for longer, help regulate our blood sugar levels and lower cholesterol levels. Medicinal mushrooms are a great source of protein, high in antioxidants, low in fat and are considered prebiotics that help our gut microbiome flourish. A lot of us have heard of probiotics but prebiotics are needed for probiotics to feed and survive on. They work together to promote a healthy digestive system, increasing our metabolism.
It took two years to research and source the best available ingredients and have them formulated here in a TGA approved facility in Queensland. I worked with a nutritionist who was able to introduce me to a mushroom supplier from the USA who had the science to back up their produce. It took over six months to design and have our sustainable packaging custom made and now that I have launched, I am so excited to share this product with others. Who doesn’t want to feel better?
