It is just so easy to get caught up in the cycle that we go through of work and sleep; work and sleep. We all know the feeling of being in dire need of a good rest – and it’s so important to take care of your body whenever you can. After all, without a healthy body, you cannot do all of the things that your busy day demands of you – whether it’s look after the kids, attend meetings, perform at work or go to the gym. You don’t have to spend hours whipping up crazy meals and concoctions. Staying healthy can be just as simple as popping some ginger and lemon in your fruit infuser water bottle in the morning to sip on all day. Let’s take a look at how you can fit taking care of yourself into your busy day.
Exercise is key
After a busy day, the last thing you want to do is head to the gym or work up a sweat. If you take the time to make exercise an incidental part of your day you’ll find that exercising is easy. Making sure you take the time to exercise could be something as simple as riding to work instead of taking the bus, or the old classic adage of jumping off the bus a stop early and walking the rest of the way home or to work. Getting up early is also a great way to get some exercise in before the day begins and you’ll find that you actually have more energy during the day – much as you might want to crawl back into bed and pull the covers over your head!
Meditate on it
Something that is a really huge part of your health is your mind. If you don’t have a healthy mind, you’ll find that it’s quite difficult to move through your day without things like anxiety and worries. Worrying is a huge part of the mental health problems that face people in the western world today and if you take the steps to curtail it before it becomes an issue, it can really help you. A great way to combat the effects of anxiety and worry is to meditate mindfully. You should take the steps to make mindfulness meditation a key part of your daily routine – and it is as simple as just taking a few mindful breaths every morning.
Write it down
If you want to succeed in your day, it can help if you diarise your thoughts in advance as to what you’re going to achieve. It is like a reverse diary process, in which you write down what you’re going to get done, and how you’re going to feel. Apart from anything else, writing is a highly therapeutic activity and it can help you immensely with your planning, goal setting and anything else that’s lingering on your mind.
Make your own lunch ahead of time
Do you ever get to lunchtime and just lament the fact that you don’t have anything healthy and nutritious to eat – plus your body is crying out for something tasty – so you just go to the burger store nearby and order something tasty but sadly, unhealthy? Get around this and make the time to make your lunches for the week the night or nights before. You can prepare things like bean curries or stir frys which freeze well and can be heated up at work for a tasty treat. You can add some variation by making up a spinach salad or by simply keeping a bag of spinach in the fridge at work, and then sprinkle some of the fresh greens over your meal.
Take the time to make space for yourself and you will enjoy the benefits from the outside in.
