The Sydney Skinny is a life affirming and uplifting event which celebrates the good things – courage, acceptance, community, charity and the beautiful Sydney Harbour. The event encourages participants to practice gratitude, adopt a healthy body image and support those around them. Many participants use it as a line in the sand each year to introduce a positive change into their lives.
Clothes, constraints and inhibitions are left on the sand as thousands of people challenge themselves to the invigorating experience. Diving off Cobbler’s Beach, Middle Head, participants are protected by the privacy and stunning surrounds of Sydney Harbour National Park and of course the iconic Sydney Skinny Sarongs given to each swimmer as they leave the water.
Australian neurosurgeon Charlie Teo has joined author and TED speaker Nigel Marsh to encourage Aussies to step out of their comfort zone and strip down for the fifth annual Sydney Skinny.
What is the distance: choose between two swim distances: 900m or 300m.
Where: Cobblers Beach, Middle Head, Sydney Harbour National Park, Australia. This wonderfully calm and protected beach faces north-west, hence provides us with idyllic conditions for a lovely swim course.
When: March 19, 2017
Age restrictions: All participants must be over 18 years of age to swim Skinny.
Start time: Event site opens at 8am and we’ll be finishing up at 3pm.
Swim time: Swimmers will select the wave they want to swim in, with waves starting at 9am.
Privacy: This event is a private, fully ticketed event and spectators will not be allowed on the beach. Apart from the Media Waves which are 1&2, the event is entirely media free. Organisers want everyone to feel comfortable and able to focus on the excitement of doing something that you can’t do at just any beach…swim in your skin!
Where will we be clothes free? The only area where people will be clothes free is on the beach. The festival area is not nude/clothes free – so you and other swimmers will only be bare running from the beach into the water!
Tickets are $45 and can be purchased here: http://www.thesydneyskinny.com.au/sydney-skinny-ocean-swim-entry.htm
