There’s so many options out there when it comes to hot dogs – flavours and toppings gourmet varieties, but for us, nothing beats the classic cheese, tomato sauce and mustard combo. Here’s where you can find Melbourne’s best:
Hot Dog Hustle
Voted Melbourne’s Number 1 Food Truck 2020 for good reason, Hot Dog Hustle use quality smoked and then grilled Aussie beef sausages in a deliciously fluffy brioche bun. With your choice of six toppings, HDH serve not-so-basic dogs that combine a fusion of Los Angeles x Asian style street dogs. They’re always expanding the menu and are now serving a crunchy fried prawn dog at their permeant stores.
Massive Wieners
Ahh yes, a Chapel Street staple! Whatever time it is, Massive Wieners are open (till 4.30am on Saturdays!) to serve you super-sized hot dogs from the Massive 12” to 3” Little Pecker. The lads even have a competition to down a 25” in 5 minutes. Succeed and you’ll land yourself on the Wall of Fame, fail and you’ll endure the wall of shame.
Café Lafayette
Unagi Hot Dog anyone? Serving up gastronomic dishes that taste just as good as they look, Café Lafayette have no fear in serving up alternative dogs. Their Unagi, freshwater Japanese eel dog is chargrilled to perfection, topped with tamagoyaki and mayo, coral lettuce, picked onion and served with crisp seaweed chips for the full Japanese experience.

Dancefloor dogs are where it’s at! Whether you’re a good multitasker and can manage to keep the sauce off your pants, or if you need to rest your feet and refuel, the dog of choice at Ferdydurke is a Polish Parowka. Cooked in craft beer and sauerkraut broth, there’s no denying this epic menu is a must-try. There’s even a tequila infused salsa and vegan Hippy Frank for an extra $2.
