Family-owned wine company Brown Brothers is releasing a feature-length documentary titled Next in Wine: Survival and Succession, which follows the Brown family as they endeavour to re-introduce a Tarrango wine to the Australian market for the first time since the 1980s.
The documentary which will premiere on FOXTEL on Friday September 30, focuses more closely on three members of the fourth generation working in the family business, sisters Katherine, Caroline and Emma Brown, as they lead the Tarrango project from designing the label, producing the wine and presenting a sales pitch to a leading Australian liquor retailer.
Katherine Brown, Brown Brothersʼ Winemaker and brand ambassador, says that driving the family business forward is at the heart of everything they do and trusts that Tarrango will take them to new heights.
“To maintain our stronghold as a leading family-owned wine company, we have to challenge the status quo by developing new grape varieties and continue the innovation and experimentation that has driven our direction for over 130 years,” says Katherine.
“We believe that the market is ready for our Tarrango varietal, a light-bodied red wine that is refreshing, bright, juicy and best served chilled.
“With the introduction of Tarrango, weʼre looking to redefine red wine as the drink of summer, and hopefully create a whole new wine category in Australia.”
Third generation winemaker, John Graham Brown, says he is proud of the direction his nieces are taking the company and believes that the Tarrango will be a success under their leadership.
“As one of Australiaʼs First Families of Wine, we rely on the next generation to bring their own thinking and innovation to the family table. With their combined knowledge and experience in wine, marketing and communications, I have no doubt that the Tarrango will thrive under the guidance of Katherine, Caroline and Emma.” says John.
The documentary was filmed and produced by Dundas Media, a production company founded by Australian-born television presenter, actor, producer and director, Jason Dundas. Jason says that the documentary, filmed from March to August 2022, is set to captivate viewers regardless of whether theyʼre wine experts or novices.
“Next in Wine: Survival and Succession provides a behind the scenes look at how a Brown Brothers wine is brought into the market, from an initial concept to the bottle shop shelf, with all the setbacks and drama that comes in between,” says Jason.
“We see sisters Katherine, Caroline and Emma steer the Tarrango project, while sharing knowledge that has been passed down through the four generations of the Brown family.
“The documentary also delves into the rich history of Brown Brothers, and how they transformed a family farm into the instantly recognisable brand it is today.”
Next in Wine: Survival and Succession will premiere on FOXTEL on Friday September 30 at 5.30pm. Available to watch on the Lifestyle channel and available On Demand.
