The smell of eggs and bacon is officially back in the air as Melburnians flock to their local cafe, and the new kid on the block Norman South Yarra, nestled in the heart of South Yarra, is giving you every reason to stop by for breakfast and settle in for lunch.
With an original plan to open in March 2020, the Norman team led by owners Andrew Simmonds (The Wolf, Windsor), Paul Lange, and head chef Matt Boylan (formerly Head Chef Fourth Chapter) had to navigate new ways to launch their latest venture, to abide by the COVID restrictions in Victoria. Come 2021 and a new year, Norman’s doors are well and truly open welcoming its local neighbourhood and friends from afar.
“We’ve been tested and challenged in 2020 however we’re just grateful to have our doors open and serving customers fresh and healthy food which is what we do best, ” said Director Paul Lange.
As you enter Norman South Yarra, you are not only greeted by a team member but also a two-level tranquil venue which can hold up to 100 guests. The cafe is sleek and sophisticated with brushed brass finishes, marble patterns, baby blue hues and greenery throughout to give it a homely vibe. Norman’s newest addition since opening its doors (officially), is its outdoor seating which has partially taken over Cunningham St, with six bench tables seating up to six guests each. The outdoor space allows for customers to enjoy the summer air all while enjoying a delicious feed.
When it comes to the food, the Norman South Yarra menu features a mix of classic cafe dishes with a twist as well as entirely new creations, giving cafe goers every reason to try something new. Whether it be an all-aussie breakfast dish like Norman’s Vegemite avo toast or something more left of field like zucchini and corn waffles, Norman really has something for every hungry tummy. The breaky board really does have it all with a variety of bite-size sweet and savoury dishes that feature on the menu, and if you’re still hungry, dig into the breaky burger.
For lunch, you can’t go past the crowd-favourite popcorn tacos with fried cauliflower, charred corn, black beans, cabbage, pomegranates and kimchi mayo. The tacos come with three soft shells filled to the brim as two is never enough, and for the summer specials be sure to try our roasted cauliflower salad with zucchini, mixed herbs, coyo dressing and hazelnut dukkah (v) or our black forest soft serve acai.
As we celebrate the Melbourne Summer season, the team will launch its Bottomless Brunches, as well as its bar cart serving up an array of spritzes and summer cocktails (because we all need more booze, especially these days!).
Norman South Yarra is open seven days a week from 7am until 4pm Monday to Saturday & Sundays from 8am.
