The Top 10 Must Dos At The 10th South Melbourne Night Market

South Melbourne Night Market celebrates its 10th birthday in 2018 and everyone is invited to join the twilight fun from January 4 to February 22. For eight glorious weeks, the village Market transforms as the balmy, summer nights come to life with a feast of street food, market stalls and live entertainment.

Here’s just a taste of the awesome summer line-up:

  1. Savour Caribbean flavours with some jerk chicken cooked just the way they like it in Jamaica at The Real Jerk
  2. Enjoy the balmy summer city nights with a chilli margarita from new restaurant on the Market block Bambu Asian eating house
  3. Follow your nose and have your camera at the ready to capture Katja’s Delicious Popcorn at work popping corn in a huge kettle
  4. Visit Ink-redible Calamari for the best salt and pepper calamari, crunchy on the outside and super soft on the inside
  5. Sip on a rosé or enjoy an ice-cold craft beer at one of the two Swords bars located on York Street and Coventry Street
  6. Take a trip to Waikiki with the Hawaiian / Japanese flavours at Poke Time and custom build your own poke bowl with the freshest ingredients
  7. Browse the gorgeous selection of jewellery in fine silver, colourful polymer clay and other contemporary materials at Birgit Holdinghausen, FunkyFunyou and Bhunny=Designs or add some colour to your wardrobe with a visit to Hew
  8. Take a seat and let henna artist Alisa Parveen work her magic on your hands
  9. No summer evening is complete without a sweet treat like single origin chocolate soft serve from Atypic Chocolate, Sicilian pistachio cannoli from Just Like Nonna’s, or indulgent tiramisu from Tiramisu Lift Me Up in a Cup
  10. Bring summer splendour back home with you via a bunch of blooms from Emerald Hill Florist. Set amongst the beautiful Victorian streetscape on Cecil, York and Coventry streets, the Night Market is a must-do Melbourne event.

Just like the regular Market, there’s a lot to love about the South Melbourne Night Market. People come from near and far to experience the Market at twilight, with the delicious food and festival vibe attracting locals alongside tourists from interstate and abroad. After all, where else in Melbourne can you saunter along the street and take your pick of world-class fare from restaurants, bars, food trucks and carts while enjoying a laid-back summer atmosphere with live music?

The soundtrack to your Night Market this year includes Zimbabwean R&B songstress Thando, Germany’s Amistat, local folk darlings Hey Mammoth! and the return of last year’s favourites Kimba & Ryan is a guarantee your toes will be tapping. And for kids, they’ll have their very own kids’ club for sunset art and craft.
