Famed American Style Buffalo Chicken specialists, Wings of Glory have opened their second store in the Melbourne CBD. Their flagship venue in Clarendon Street, South Melbourne is famous for its boneless wings, chicken wraps and authentic take on a timeless American tradition.
When Steven Lo gave up the daily grind and left his job as an IT contractor, he traveled to the land of the free and home of the brave in search of culinary inspiration. That inspiration came in the form of mouthwatering buffalo style chicken, original zingy buffalo sauce and American craft beer. This trip spawned his passion for wings and beer culture and he has been committed to this obsession ever since.
Along with his wife Jen, they have built on the foundation and success of the first store and are excited to bring the concept to a second location. “We will promote the same ambience as our South Melbourne venue and encourage an indoor/outdoor feel,” Jen says. Their recipes are true to the buffalo authentic marinade and Jennifer simply puts it, “We get it right, keep it simple and keep the costs reasonable for those who want to just simply enjoy buffalo wings… just like in America.”
Everything is made on site which is a remarkable feat, given that so many of today’s fast food enterprises churn out pre-packaged food. The salads and sauces are determinedly made from scratch and every single chip is hand cut and then twice fried, sometimes a two-day process from start to finish. Thought provoking American amber ales, IPA’s and alcoholic ginger beer populate the drinks menu with an emphasis on Melbourne craft beer.
The much celebrated ‘Fury Challenge’ figures prominently at the second location, challenging brave participants to down 12 super hot chicken wings in 4 minutes. The chilli jolt is four times hotter than their standard and showcases the ghost chilli pepper, a formidable antagonist. $1 wings after 5pm on a Wednesday are another crowd pleaser.
The new venue is an exciting addition to the CBD hospitality landscape and will cater to the corporate/after work demographic, late night revellers and all those hungry wanderers that are after some of the best buffalo style chicken the city has to offer.
You can find the brand new Wings of Glory store at 288 Little Lonsdale Street, Melbourne and their opening hours are as follows: Monday – Thursday 11:30am til 10pm, Friday 11:30am til 11pm, Saturday midday til 11pm and Sunday midday til 10pm.
