Scoresby may seem like an unconventional place to set up a business such as Stanley Burgers, but it was owner, Farid Magdy’s, desire to bring a fresh breath of innovation to the area that led to his choice in venue. Previously a takeaway shop that was in deep need of some TLC, Scoresby locals can now enjoy a fun, uniquely modern venue with a mouth-watering menu and stunning fit out.
Magdy’s original idea for Stanley Burgers came from a memory he had of eating a delicious burger when he was on Stanley beach in his homeland of Alexandria, Egypt. This memory, combined with his love for the beach, travelling and experiencing different cultures, became the basis for the menu and the interior design. With this kind of sentimental inspiration behind the venue, it’s only fitting that each item on offer is designed to transport you to various beaches around the world. Each burger on offer has been carefully crafted to encapsulates the taste of a city within its buns. Take the Waikiki for example; named after Waikiki beach in Hawaii, with beef, bacon, pineapple, american cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomato sauce. Want to travel to the Eastern side of the globe? Try the Miyakojima, which consists of an okonomiyaki pancake, lettuce, tomato, avocado, sriracha vegan mayonnaise and onion rings. Then there’s the real highlight of the menu – the Stanley Burger featuring a beef pattie, buttermilk fried chicken, American cheddar cheese, lettuce, aioli, sriracha bacon, onion rings and of course Stanley’s secret sauce, injected through a syringe.
But it’s not only the burger options that take you to another city – even the sides offer international flavours. Enjoy the Escobar Fries with house-made chilli con carne, manchego cheese, guac and sour cream, or the Rhode Island Salad with green and red cabbage, carrot, quinoa puffs, seeds, mayonnaise and herbs for a lighter option. We all know that no burger joint is complete without indulgent, loaded milkshakes and Stanley Burgers’ won’t disappoint. Try the cheekily named Pin-My-Colada; with coconut ice-cream, coconut milk, shredded coconut, toasted pineapple, Bounty chocolate and pineapple lollies – it’s yet another standout on the menu. To top it off, specialty coffee is hard to come by in Scoresby and Stanley Burgers have their coffee window open from 7am daily to serve delicious St Ali brews.
Along with their logo imitating a burger and a beach scene, similarly so does the venue design itself. Trish Khoury from Grace Interior Design has crafted the venue with “the strategy [being on] the colours, shapes and textures of beaches worldwide with a specific focus on Stanley Beach in Alexandria, Egypt. Her team “discovered a copper colour found in the Stanley Bridge itself,” Khoury continues, “so we used classic coastal colours such as blue and and this copper palette and added some fun and uniqueness through the installation of the juju hats, which has a dual conceptual purpose, firstly to represent clouds and secondly to reflect beach bird life such as seagulls.” The theme for Stanley Burgers is more than just coastal – it’s conceptual too, without losing the fun atmosphere and relaxed vibes you get on a visit to the beach.
Stanley Burgers is a neighbourhood-friendly and inviting venue, suitable for families, tradies and groups alike and provides a much needed oasis in the suburban area of Scoresby. With such a worldly menu on offer, Magdy’s hope is that no matter where in the world you’re from, you’ll be at home, with a burger in hand, at Stanley Burgers.
