Everything about United Arab Eatery is mini; the place is mini, the tables are mini, the menu is mini…
On arrival, it looked like it was just me and my enormous appetite bucking this diminutive trend. Until my carefully assembled meat plate – menu highlight! – emerged from behind what I’m calling the bain-marie. Me and my appetite (my appetite and I?) were pleasantly surprised. Here’s a list of what I inhaled:
- Platter: deep fried mashed chickpea cubes, chickpea/pita bake, carrot salad, lettuce salad, quinoa tabouleh, dips (beetroot, hommus), two pink things and a smattering of olives
- Buttery couscous and warm flatbread
- A small bowl of slow cooked lamb
- A jar of gherkins
NB: The jar of gherkins I ate previously but what’s a list if not without a few ‘already completed’ inclusions? Why, it’s a testimony of underachievement I say!
Back to the bain-marie: as pointed out by my close associate and all round food Confucius Geeta, one should never trust a bain-marie without steam. Despite the absence thereof *alert!* I was willing to forgive as it was more of a holding bay for salads and (limited) sweets. At $18 for a large meat or vegetarian plate and $15 for a medium it’s not exactly cheap but it the place is pretty cheerful – as was I, rolling butter and cheer-filled out the door (boom-boom).
