Oh là la, nothing screams PAREE louder than a buttery, golden croissant.
LuxBite South Yarra have created a series of pastries that sit picture-perfectly under glossy display cabinets as a decadent ode to the french pastry.
But wait, the plot thickens.
Amid this new range are a number of croissants with a uniquely Asian twist, borrowing culinary secrets from traditional Asian cuisine and fusing them with the fool-proof framework of the iconic croissant.
LuxBite Executive Pastry Chef Bernard Chu and his partner Yen Yee are the dynamic duo spearheading this edit of the quintessential Parisian staple.
“We decided to take inspiration from some of our most memorable dishes from our favourite places where we have lived or visited in Asia, and combined them with traditional French pastry techniques.”
For those of you francophiles stuck in your almond croissant ways (raises hand), LuxBite serve up a simple ‘Le Traditional’ range dedicated to fulfilling your strictly Parisian coffee-racing dreams.
Red-stained lips, a striped top, and your filled-to-the-brim brown paper bag in hand, you will forget that your current location is Melbourne until a tram blocks your view of the Eiffel Tower. Oh wait, that’s just the Arts Centre. Merde!
But if you’re feeling more adventurous, you will sit gazing across LuxBite’s ever-stretching, central marble table, restless with intrigue as to the ‘Le Not So Traditional’ range.
Whilst I am not accustomed to seaweed atop my croissants, I was in raptures with a prime example of their tastebud teasing offerings, ‘Le Taiwan’. After a meticulous and measured first bite, I returned promptly with my knife and fork ready to devour more.
This savoury, spring onion addition to the line is a firm and simultaneous nod to two very different cultures, yet marries star-crossed flavours together with surprising ease. Miam.
Allez! Vite! It’s your turn to trial the Viennoiserie of these resident cake connoisseurs and give your tastebuds a lesson in colcha. Don’t forget your beret!
LuxBite is just a hop, skip and tram away at 38 Toorak Road, South Yarra.
