Chapel Street has welcomed a lively new pizza and tequila bar to the heart of Windsor, served with a cheeky Mexican twist. Launched just in time for summer, Chacho’s Pizza + Bar provides a playful food and drinks offering for guests to graze well into the night.
Restaurant owner Dan Xerri (Resto Bobo) spent years working abroad, predominantly in Italy, appreciating the art of quality pizza and is now excited to funk-up the classic.
Designed by boutique Melbourne firm Samantha Eades, dimly lit olive green and leather banquette seating provides a comfortable yet sleek retreat encouraging the return of south-side locals and beyond. The fitout is layered in vibrant wall tagging and urban overtones that serve as the ideal Instagram moment for Chapel Street regulars – think neon signs accompanied by saucy puns.
With a menu split into ‘Pizzas’ and ‘Not Pizzas’, the Mexican influence keeps things fun and interesting. Led by Head Chef and pizza guru, Dan Pegg (Lazerpig) , popular toppings for the 12-inch authentic sourdough bases include the Del Toro featuring San Marzano, mozzarella, roasted onions, chorizo, corn, jalapenos and coriander, complete with a central ring of corn chips for guacamole and sour cream dipping.
There’s also the Holy Mole for meat-lovers – Mexican mole sauce with mozzarella, shredded slow cooked pork, coriander, pickled red onion and lime.
Smaller bites such as grilled corn with chipotle aioli, chili, parmesan, lime and tequila salt along with grilled jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese p rovide the perfect cocktail accompaniment.
But what really sets Chacho’s apart is its extensive range of Tequila and Mezcal. Dessert has been ditched for a drinks menu as funky as the venue’s background beats – think sexy margaritas of the sweet and savoury kind and a cocktail list that will have guests hailing ex Smith & Daughters Bar Manager, Ben Street, for another…and another.
Ben can take guests through tequila flights available in 20ml and 30ml servings, all delivered with house-made sangrita.
And with daily happy hour from 5-7pm, $10 margaritas and $10 pizzas provide the perfect post work feed.
