Imagine this… walking into a café and being able to eat everything on the menu.
For most people, this is the norm, but for people with dietary requirements and allergies, this is an occurrence worth celebrating. A simple pleasure, such as this one, still blows my mind.
Yarralicous has just opened up to the public (previously only available to the wholesale sector). Maja and her partner, Pete coincidently stumbled upon the new venue. Fittingly nestled in Warrandyte, where there are never enough coffee shops and people thrive on gluten free, dairy free, vegan, organic and local produce products, it’s no wonder the unique baked goods have become popular amongst the locals.
Yarralicious began as a small market business selling a mixture of gluten free goods. It was at these markets the council encouraged the testing of the cakes and slices free of charge. The testing offered great comfort with the delicious range of cakes positively gluten free. The brand built from there, even though in the beginning gluten free wasn’t the intention…
The cake artist is not a qualified chef, but her Dad was, so her childhood experiences bring depth to her cooking. Maja was raised with encouragement from a young age to experiment with food, and was educated to distinguish which ingredients complimented others. The family love of flavour, texture and food is what has evolved the Yarralicious brand.
The cakes and slices are made with things that are generally in season, ingredients that are local but also flavours you wouldn’t ordinarily think to mix. The creator openly admits to having many recipes going around in her head. If it wasn’t for the demand of the wholesale orders, choosing the right ones would be difficult.
I love the ginger and chocolate mini cakes. And, for those of you with a more traditional approach, the raspberry bites are guaranteed to have you drooling. I must add; Peter makes a killer coffee, so it’s way worth the stop.
