Local gem of the inner North, Mr Ottorino, has officially opened its doors for breakfast and there is not a smashed avocado in sight.
Staying true to its roots, the Italian inspired menu includes traditional items with a breakfast twist, as well as arguably Fitzroy’s best value coffee at less than two dollars per cup. This menu, brave in its approach, features carefully curated dishes that will leave diners wanting more.
For fans of savoury flavours there’s no looking past the ‘eggs in purgatory’, beans, quail egg, smoked pork & fennel sausage or a breakfast impanata with passata house-cured ham, fior di latte. Sweet tooths can sink their teeth into the hung buffalo milk yoghurt pana cotta topped with fig & almonds granola and in house seasonal poached fruits.
But the real treat for serious breakfast punters is Mr Ottorino’s signature ‘brekkie carbonara’; which paired with Mr O’s Spicy Bloody Mary (made with house-made spiced tomato sugo, celery and vodka) is the perfect option for those needing to soak up the remnants of the night before.
Melburnians rejoice, Mr Ottorino shares the love of great coffee. For the equivalent of one euro, diners can recharge with a brew from award-winning Italian coffee brand Caffé Trombetta, that’s charged according to the exchange rate – it doesn’t get much cheaper than that.
As a first generation Australian and the grandson of one of Melbourne’s first pastry chefs, Executive Chef Matteo Tine grew up experiencing and sharing traditional food with his ‘famiglia’ and ‘paisani’ – today this is still the core focus for Mr Ottorino with all dishes designed to bring people together in celebration of food.
“We wanted to give people the chance to try something a little bit different – traditional Italian breakfast is something that we haven’t seen much of in Melbourne. At Mr Ottorino it’s all about delicious food and great value coffee. Besides, who doesn’t want to eat pasta for breakfast!” said Tine.
Guests can enjoy the relaxed service, choosing to eat in the intimate courtyard, or enjoy the cosy dining room that is decidedly ‘Nonni Chic’ in its peach and white-washed colouring. Entering Mr Ottorino with an empty stomach and a big appetite is strongly recommended.
Breakfast is available Saturday & Sundays from 8am – 3pm.
