Picture this. Two friends meet for dinner. One accepted the oft-dreaded task of choosing where exactly to dine. It’s okay, they tell themselves – I’ve nailed this. As they clamber to a table a few cheeky spritzes in (because Summer, duh), it quickly becomes apparent to one friend that the other friend is less than impressed with the state of the menu. Shit, the aforementioned friend mutters as they realise they have done it a-bloody-gain. NO VEGAN OPTIONS AVAIL. *Facepalm* They’re feeling like a seasoned regular at not facilitating their friend’s dietary requirements. One grabs a steak and the other pokes at a bowl of iceberg lettuce for a solid hour with simmering contempt.
Sound familiar?
WELL, we’re responding to the SOS call. Bookmark Lona St Kilda on your dining to-do list. The bustling watering and grog hole has made some delitchuz new additions to their already sizzling menu. They are vegan, sexy and wildly tasty – so in essence, all of your boxes are ticked.
It’s the contemporary Spanish/South American restaurant that you already know and love. Upon an ambient alfresco space festooned with pink neon lights and goooood vibes, you and your bestie will be spoilt for choice between the original Lona classics and these hot newcomers.
Among the new vegan deployments are Tierra Tacos with smoked paprika, salted cauliflower, spicy beetroot, coriander, salsa and garnishings of zesty lime. Grabbing a few plates to share? Add on the Wild Mushroom Toastadas filled with beetroot, corn, Spanish onion and tumaca while you’re at it. Hoh, look at you go! Not a sad bowl of salad in sight. Both friends are happy piggies in foodie mud. Result!
If you thought you’d leave within an hour but then receive some mysterious mojitos fresh from an admirer at the bar (it’s a hard life), then Lona’s new vegan slider with slow braised, BBQ’d jackfruit, sweet apples, cabbage, carrot and tumaca will help you sober up for a mandatory bathroom touch-up.
That’s the beauty of our go-to St Kilda spot – you can eat all of the foodz and enjoy a good catch-up, then transition into drinking all of the drankz and moving the party outside to do all of the dancing.
On your horse. It’s time to win those BFF brownie points and make a suggestion that will please every tummy at the table.
Lona is located at 64-66 Acland Street, St Kilda.
