To celebrate the successful launch of its Little Lonsdale Street restaurant, and to thank all the loyal customers, WONDER BOWL is pleased to announce a giveaway promotion in time for the cooler months. From 14 May to 18 May 2018, WONDER BOWL will be giving the first 50 customers to walk through the doors from 6pm a free bowl of noodle soup of their choice.
Since opening, WONDER BOWL has already developed a significant fan base thanks to its signature noodle soups. Taking its name from its Chinese translation ‘Wan Di Xian’, WONDER BOWL’s formula of pairing thick vermicelli noodles with a superior broth and Chinese rice wine has resulted in a cult following among office workers, city residents and university students.
Malaysian-born co-owner and noodle aficionado Steve Tan discovered the winning formula for his noodle soups while travelling throughout China’s Guangzhou province with a group of friends. According to Tan: ‘We came across the most delicious noodle soup with a seafood base over there. It was light and delicate yet full of rich seafood flavour, it was like nothing we had ever tasted before.’ Upon returning home, Tan and his friends were inspired to create their own version of the dish combining thick vermicelli noodles with a home-style seafood broth and Chinese rice wine, the latter being the secret ingredient to add a unique flavour dimension to the soup. At WONDER BOWL, diners are encouraged to add the rice wine themselves to suit their tastes.
WONDER BOWL’s best selling dishes include its superior noodle soup with drunken chicken and its signature seafood combination with superior soup. According to Tan, traditional noodle soups come in either pork, beef or chicken-based stock. WONDER BOWL is pioneering the trend of using aromatic seafood stock as the base for noodle soups as well as other noodle variations.

The 120-seater eatery occupies a first floor space designed by award-winning architectural firm Elenberg Fraser, responsible for designing Zumbo South Yarra and Vue de Monde’s interiors. While the main drawcard at WONDER BOWL is the superior noodle soups, Tan has also diversified the menu. ‘We also have a spicy version of the superior soup, inspired by the Sichuan ‘ma la’ hotpots as well as claypot yee mee, dry noodle dishes and crispy egg noodles with a variety of toppings. Our ingredients are handmade, including the fish paste used in some dishes and the herbal jellies that feature in our desserts.’ With the winter months approaching, there has never been a better time to tuck into a comforting bowl of noodle soup at WONDER BOWL.
