Two New Cafes to Launch Southside in Melbs: Grange Road Egg Shop + Lillie

Adam Wilkinson

Café entrepreneur Adam Wilkinson is officially back in business, announcing the launch of two unique eateries that will both open in Melbourne’s Southside before the end of 2016.

Wilkinson, best known for launching popular Prahran café, St Edmonds – one of the first cafes in Melbourne to attract queues around the block – as well as the tongue-in-cheek but seriously sustainable Denis The Menace, returns to the game after time off to contemplate his next move.

First up, he’s bringing his signature style to Toorak with Grange Road Egg Shop, a light and bright eatery with a strong aesthetic that’s set to open mid November on the corners of Toorak and Grange Roads. Guests at the 97-seater venue will enjoy a menu designed by Yotam Ottolenghi alumni, Aleksander Nitecki.

With a focus on design, Grange Road Egg Shop will inject new life into Toorak Village with vibrant pastel furnishings from Fritz Hansen, a custom installation by street artist, Deams, and quirky references to the egg theme throughout.

Wilkinson’s second venture, Lillie, will open early December on Chattam Street, Prahran. Located just a few steps from Chapel Street, Lillie will serve healthy, quality takeaway and dine-in meals with the aim of making lunch decisions easier for those working nearby.

Adapting a trend that has developed a mass following in The United States, Lillie will serve fresh salads by the scoop with optional add-ons such as slathers of crisp pork belly, cured fish or pickled and probiotic vegetables.

The 120-seater spot will feature a fitout from long time affiliate Simon Cooks from Duck Build Architecture, Ash Keating artwork, and a giant self-sufficient bio tank representing a living eco-system that exhibits Adam’s passion for sustainability.
