From July 17th, 2017 the delicious homemade and home delivered dishes from The Dinner Ladies will be available to order for the first time in Melbourne and some parts of regional Victoria.
Launched in 2007, The Dinner Ladies, Katherine Westwood and Sophie Gilliatt, are two power-house mums from suburban Sydney who came up with the idea to prepare and deliver dinners to time-poor family and friends so they would always have good homemade food in their commercial fridges and freezers.
Dinner is a very important time of the day and The Dinner Ladies’ mission is to see that people enjoy this precious time with family and friends without the stress of planning, preparing and putting dinner on the table every day.
In their hometown of Sydney that idea was on the money and The Dinner Ladies quickly grew into a thriving pre-prepared dinner delivery service of family loved favourites. From its humble beginnings of two camp stoves on a converted trailer in the backyard, today the business employs over 30 staff cooking Dinner Ladies dinners in a commercial kitchen in Matraville in Sydney’s south-east.
Despite the success and growth of the business the Ladies refuse to compromise on their philosophy of cooking each dish as though it were for their own families. The freshness of the food is paramount to the Ladies who buy all their fruit and vegetables from Flemington Market and make absolutely everything from scratch – every stock, every paste, every pastry and every sauce.
“The Dinner Ladies was born from our own life’s challenges. We have seven children and two husbands between us with varying appetites and degrees of fussiness. There is not much we don’t know about pleasing a tricky crowd and there is no better insurance against anything life can throw at you than a freezer full of The Dinner Ladies dishes,” says Katherine Westwood.
“Amongst the hectic craziness of contemporary life, taking time to sit at a table for dinner with friends and family, or just your own thoughts, is increasingly important to our wellbeing. People are time poor but still crave the comfort and nourishment that good wholesome food cooked with heart can provide. We do that for our customers every day,” says Sophie Gilliatt.
Dishes are wide and varied and take their influence from around the world, from great chefs to street food, but also reference recipes handed down through the generations from their mothers and grandmothers. What is most important to The Dinner Ladies is food that is honest, nourishing of body and soul and full of flavour.
The Dinner Ladies dinners are made every day and snap frozen for freshness and delivery. Simple thawing and reheating is all that’s needed for some while others require a little oven time. The Dinner Ladies will deliver to Metropolitan Melbourne, Geelong, Bendigo and Ballarat.
