The Bridport Café have cooked their way to success with its Mixed Breakfast Bruschetta to take out the inaugural title of Australian Café of the Year.
The wildfire tour across Australia was certainly no easy feat for the reputable judging team from Café Culture but after trawling the country in the hunt for the winning establishment, Bridport has come out on top amongst the 21 finalists.
The quirky and retro café located in the small coastal town of Bridport has now been put on the map after seven years in operation and will be driving away with a Renault Clio RS200.
On the win, Kate Brill, The Bridport Café owner said, “Since I was a little girl, I would sell my homemade creations to family and friends from my cubby house and now I get to share these with my customers every day”.
“People want more than good food and coffee, they want a complete dining experience which is what we pride ourselves on offering to each customer that walks through our door”, said Ms. Brill.
The winning dish was inspired by a regular when one day, he was unsure what to order and was offered an off-the-menu creation, becoming his favourite and go-to dish to this day. The dish featured three bruschetta alternatives incorporating Heinz Baked Beans along with Don Bacon, creating a smorgasbord of choice to satisfy all tastebuds.
Andrew Nalder, Australian Café of the Year spokesperson, said, “Kate and The Bridport Café team are deserving winners that showed creative thinking with their dish as well as offering an exceptional level of customer service and creating a welcoming and pleasant ambience.
The Bridport Café epitomises what the Australian Café of the Year competition stands for – that is, supporting local businesses and giving them the opportunity and platform to promote their establishment to their existing and to potential customers, demonstrating why Australia has one of the best café cultures in the world”.
The Café of the Year competition launched in New Zealand in 2012, attracting entries from 750 cafés and 46,000 consumer votes, establishing itself as a title to be fought for.
After an intense campaign, the title of the inaugural New Zealand Café of the Year was awarded to Mairangi Bay café, Paper Moon for its winning dish. Following the hype created through their win, the owners opened a second establishment, Black Cottage which placed a begrudging second in the 2013 competition.
