Long held as the birthplace of the traditional afternoon tea in 1865, The Langham, London’s timeless heritage is celebrated now in the harbour city with the relaunch of Tiffin at The Langham, Sydney.
Delicate finger sandwiches and decadent miniature patisseries are presented on Langham Rose, a custom-made Wedgwood china exclusively designed for the Langham Hospitality Group. The highlight and fast favourites are The Langham’s freshly baked strawberry tart with indulgent crème patisserie, and variety of delicate finger sandwiches.
The three tiers are accompanied by a selection of traditional and exotic teas, as well as the option of Laurent-Perrier champagne or Laurent-Perrier Rosé.
On Sunday, 12th May, Wedgwood and The Langham, Sydney have partnered to host a Mother’s Day Tiffin, helping guests celebrate this special day over a classic afternoon tea with two brands embodying quintessential British elegance. All guests will receive a complimentary Wedgwood White Intaglio 5”x 7” Frame valued at $69.95.
The relaunched menu has been designed by newly appointed Executive Chef Anthony Craven, who joins The Langham, Sydney from Manila’s Peninsula Hotel. Tiffin is served everyday with two sittings on Saturdays and Sundays.
English Afternoon Tea is credited to the 7th Duchess of Bedford almost 150 years ago, a lady-in-waiting to Queen Victoria. After experiencing a ‘sinking feeling’ in the middle of the afternoon one day, she asked her footman to deliver all the tea making equipment with some bread and butter to her private room. She found this new meal to be satisfying and enjoyable that she soon started inviting other ladies-in-waiting to join her for ‘afternoon tea’.
With the opening of Europe’s first grand hotel, The Langham, London in 1865, the simple platefuls of bread and butter that first accompanied afternoon tea developed into a much more elaborate selection of sandwiches, scones, patisseries and fruit desserts – the tradition of afternoon tea was born.
Steeped in British tradition and honouring its classic heritage, Tiffin at The Langham is Sydney’s premier destination for guests to enjoy the timeless ritual of afternoon tea in the opulent Globe Bar & Brasserie and Galileo Restaurant.
