This winter iconic South Melbourne based GAS Eatery & Supplies – renowned for wholesome eat in and take home meals – is welcoming the change of season with a range of nourishing soups served in an easy for transportation bucket in the hope that Henry and Liza refuel, refresh, and reinvigorate minus a hole.
Gone are the days when soup was considered an introductory course to the main meal. Now, soups are an easy, filling, and nutritious main meal option perfectly suited for increasingly fast-paced lifestyles.
GAS’s soups are packed full of grain and pulses like barley, farro, and chick pea supplied by the Seymour family from Mt Zero near Horsham.
At GAS, head chef and co-owner Nikki Maskiell has created a range of seasonal soups with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean influences that are hearty enough to feed the entire family.
The offering changes daily and can be ordered by the bowl to eat in ($11), by cup for take-out ($8) or by the bucket to take home. Buckets are hygienic, airtight and have a carry handle for easy transportation and come in serving sizes for 2-3 people ($15) or 4-5 people ($30).
Beef Shin Soup is a favourite on the menu. The soup is thick and flavoursome with spelt and winter vegetables, and is finished with gremolata.
Roasted Pumpkin Soup has been given a contemporary lift with the addition of leek, sage and pancetta served with ricotta and chive dumplings.
And Salsa Verde soldiers will appeal to the big and little kids dunked into Chickpea, Tomato and Quinoa Soup.
“Everyone loves a delicious home made soup packed with beautiful produce, and it’s a great way to get the kids eating more vegetables,” Nikki says. “Soups are tasty, easy and pack a punch nutritionally too.”
“Our GAS soup buckets come in two sizes small and large and have taken off now that the cool weather is here to stay and there is nothing that spells out winter more than a bowl of hearty soup that can be shared with work colleagues or at home with family and friends”.
