After multiple sold-out events on the east coast, West Australian vegan consumers will have the rare opportunity to attend a food & wine event especially crafted for them, in Fremantle, as part of the WA Today’s Good Food Month program in April.
Hosted by Yalumba’s Head of Winemaking, Louisa Rose, Vegan & The Vine will feature a 100 per cent vegan-friendly four-course dinner menu created by the team at The Raw Kitchen in Fremantle, matched with wines by family winemakers Yalumba.
Louisa and The Raw Kitchen Co-owner Heath Daly will talk about the importance of sustainability in wine-making and cooking highlighting their philosophies behind their crafts.
Since the 2012 vintage, all wines crafted by Yalumba have been classified suitable for vegans & vegetarians, meaning no animal-based products are used in the winemaking process. The use of gelatin, milk and eggs in the clarification process is very common in winemaking throughout the world.
The Yalumba winemaking team believe that the use of these products can strip away the optimum fruit flavours and textures they work so hard to gain in the vineyard.
Louisa Rose, Head of Winemaking at Yalumba said making the best quality wines without animal based products is not easy, but it fits with the 166-year-old winery’s total commitment to sustainability.
“Through our journey to ensure maximum fruit flavour and texture in our wines, we ultimately found ourselves making better wines, but it goes much deeper than that,” Louisa said.
“We want to do the right thing and to work with nature. We are committed to sustainable practices, with the belief that the healthier and more bio-diverse the vineyards are the better the wines will be. Minimising human, animal and chemical intervention ensures a balanced and healthy environment for our grapes to grow.”
“This event is not just for vegan foodies. It’s for lovers of food and wine who are interested in trying new and exciting wine combinations,” Louisa states.
Vegan & The Vine Perth will take place on 21 April 2016 at The Raw Kitchen, Fremantle. Tickets are $90 and include matched vegan wines to each course. Tickets are available here.
