The Royal Exhibition Buildings will again play host to Melbourne’s Premier Food and Wine event, Taste of Melbourne, held from Thursday the 26th to Sunday the 29th of August, 2010.
Taste Festivals, who operate both Taste of Melbourne and Taste of Sydney, are proud to announce that HSBC will be the presenting rights sponsor of the Taste food and wine festivals in Melbourne and Sydney.
Commenting on the announcement, HSBC’s head of marketing in Australia, Darren Friedlander, said Taste was a natural fit for the Bank because, like HSBC, Australia’s food culture is defined by global influences underpinned by local expertise and knowledge.
“Taste is a wonderful celebration of Australian food culture and our sponsorship of this event reflects our desire to encourage and promote the understanding of different cultures across the world, which is central to the way we do business,” Friedlander said.
Now established as a ‘must attend event’ by food and wine lovers from Australia and beyond, Taste of Melbourne allows attendees to sample signature dishes prepared by chefs from the Melbourne’s best and hatted restaurants. Participating restaurants to date include – Stokehouse+ Bar, Longrain + Bar, Sarti, Maze, The Palace by Luke Mangan, Melbourne Wine Room & Mr. Wolf, Esposito, Libertine and Mezzo. New this year is the Taste of Melbourne ‘Pop-Up Restaurant’ featuring a different restaurant for each day of the show. Confirmed so far are:
Embrasse, Koots Salle a Manger & Comida de Bebe.
In addition, Victoria’s leading produce suppliers and purveyors of gastronomic goodies will exhibit their delicious wares for tasting and buying. The Australian Gourmet Traveller Taste Kitchen and Editor, Anthea Loucas will host Melbourne’s leading chefs as they demonstrate how to be a masterchef.
The Gourmet Traveller Wine Theatre presented by editor, Judy Sarris and wine expert, Nick Stock will lead a team of experts and will provide a unique opportunity to taste and learn about rare and boutique wines, valuable to both the wine beginner and the connoisseur.
And this year Taste of Melbourne goes upstairs. Due to the overwhelming success of Taste of Melbourne, the gallery level will be accessed by a wide ‘stairway to heaven’, your entrée to another world of restaurants, bars and an exclusive VIP area.
The second most important currency to the dollar – the Crown – will again make attending Taste of Melbourne simple 1 Crown = $1. Crowns can be purchased in advance or on the day eliminating the need for carrying cash. Crowns can be used to buy restaurant tastes or exhibitors goodies. The cost of dishes varies from 8 to 12 Crowns. The process is as simple as passing over the required number of Crowns for the selected dish.
During Melbourne’s wintery August, the Royal Exhibition Building is transformed into a culinary haven with an abundance of warm, inviting dining areas enabling guests to listen to music and chat with friends while savouring the tastes of the city’s vast dining scene.
