Summer Itinerary Addition: Queen Victoria Night Market Celebrates 20 Years In The Sun

Food. Festivity. Friends. They’re ¾ of our favourite F words, and are all found under the canopy of Melbourne’s most iconic rooftop: the Queen Victoria Market.

You guessed it, every Wednesday from now until 11 April 2018, Queen Victoria Market are dishing up sizzling souvas and dousing visitors in icy sangrias. Each hump day will be dedicated to indulging in this city’s finest grog and grub, and we are ready.

While we loved Queen Vic’s winter counterpart, there is a slightly more enthusiastic inclination to venture out of our abodes now that hibernation season is officially complete.

This year is extra special, marking 20 candles on the Night Market’s birthday cake. If that doesn’t call for a bit of Melbourne-patriotism-induced celebration, we’re not too sure what could. With a blockbuster 21-week fiesta already in motion, Night Market offerings are already framing our Instagram feeds.

From food, drinks, artisan shopping and live entertainment, you have the perfect destination to chase away the all-too familiar midweek slump that nearly every nine-to-fiver is guilty of.

The Night Market will gather more than 60 global street food stalls and festival bars; over 130 artisan fashion, homewares and general merchandise traders; plus, a constant stream of groovy live performances to get your boogie on to.

To name a few of the plentiful new food and beverage traders debuting at The Night Market for this quarter-century bash, we’ve got:

  • Gangnam Pocha – Korean street food featuring spicy rice cakes, sweet and spicy deep-fried chicken and sweet potato noodles;
  • Poke Doke – Raw fish poke bowls and sushi doughnuts;
  • Pachamancha – Authentic Peruvian street food;
  • Boston Bagels – American style bagels;
  • Melbourne Gin Company – Classic gin cocktails with a Melbourne twist!

Night Market-goers can also revisit favourites from previous Night Market seasons, including:

  • Taki’s Balls – Greek doughnut balls served with mouth-watering toppings like Nutella and salted caramel with crushed toffee popcorn;

Hungry? Yep, same here.

If you’ve already sent off the ‘Wed catch-up??’ text to your nearest and dearest, here’s some fast facts to forward on through:
