Wednesday nights at Queen Victoria Market are set to pay tribute to the ultimate European tour when Europa Night Market kicks off on 10 April. This new event will transform the Market into a bustling European-style street party and will run for five weeks until 8 May.
In celebration of Melbourne’s diverse European roots, the event will gather 20 food and 20 retail stalls celebrating the unique quirks, traditions and cultures from across the Continent.
Visitors can not only indulge in traditional and modern European dishes – think German currywurst, Portuguese barbecue, Spanish paella, Belgiumfrites and Irish Guinness wings – but also get involved in cultural activities such as Polish and Ukrainian egg-dyeing for Easter. The Brexit Bar will be the place to mingle, say prost with a beer, wine or cocktail, and take a break from the European action.
In a nod to all the glitter, lights and outrageous fun of Eurovision, night market-goers can immerse themselves in a different European region each week through a variety of musical performances live from the amphitheatre-style stage. We’re talking Spanish flamenco dancing, Ukrainian Hopak dancing and much more. The ‘Euro Zone’ will celebrate weekly themes of Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean, Italy, Iberian Peninsula and French provinces.
A weekly silent disco led by très kitsch holiday tour guides will complete the night for those wishing to get into formation and transport themselves to a European getaway.
Melburnians, prepare yourselves for mucho Euro fun as the Europa Night Market kicks off on 10 April.
