White Rabbit has partnered with the good folk at STARWARD Whisky to create Jackalope – a wheat beer aged in whisky barrels. To celebrate, the brewers and distillers will be welcoming all to feast at a special Dinner Down The Rabbit Hole at the White Rabbit Barrel Hall in Geelong on Thursday, 18 August 2016.
Jeremy Halse, Head Brewer at White Rabbit said: “We sourced some barrels from our mates at STARWARD which previously had whisky in them. We gave our house wheat beer a period of hibernation in those barrels and as a result the beer has taken on just enough whisky flavour and aroma – making it both refreshing and complex.”
Expertly curated by White Rabbit and STARWARD, Dinner Down The Rabbit Hole will begin with a medley of canapés and a chalice of White Rabbit Pale ale followed by a boilermaker of Jackalope and Solera.
The Jackalope will then be ‘deconstructed’; as guests taste everything that has been in the barrel before this delicious beer, including a selection of Whisky tasters; Apera, New Make Spirit and Cask Strength Solera. Beer lovers will also enjoy trying White Rabbit Teddywidder, the wheat beer that went into barrel, alongside Jackalope to get an understanding of the flavours the whisky barrels have imparted.
Other highlights include a main course of pork and veal meatballs paired with White Rabbit Red Ale, followed by crème brulee accompanied by a boilermaker of Dark Ale and a slightly sweeter STARWARD Whisky.
“This beer started as a one off batch for GABS (Great Australian Beer Spectacular) but it’s been so well received we decided to make it again. Even though it’s a sour wheat beer it’s very approachable; one that has proved popular with not only whisky and beer drinkers but even those who usually don’t go for beer at all,” said Jeremy.
Dinner Down The Rabbit Hole will take place on Thursday, 18 August 2016 from 6.30pm at the White Rabbit Brewery and Barrel Hall in Geelong. Tickets cost $69.00 and can be purchased through Eventbrite.
A limited edition run of Jackalope 750ml bottles will be released for the first time at the event and will be available for purchase alongside Starward Whisky bottles.
The White Rabbit Brewery and Barrel Hall is open Sunday to Thursday: 11:00am – 5:00pm, Friday to Saturday 11:00am – 9:00pm, and is located on the Little Creatures Village – 221 Swanston Street, South Geelong.
