Starward founder, David Vitale, and his stellar team have just released a new concoction to the Australian whisky category. Introducing Two-Fold – the flavour-forward whisky made from wheat and malted barley. Proudly born and bred in Melbourne, Starward whiskies have been benchmarked alongside the world renowned Scotch, American, Irish and Japanese contenders and continue to scoop up prestigious awards every year, including Best Craft Distiller Whiskey at the 2017 San Francisco Global Spirits Competition.
David explains, “I started Starward with a simple vision; offer the world a distinctly Australian whisky unshackled from tradition. We mature our whisky in red wine barrels to create a bridge for wine drinkers to discover whisky in an approachable and accessible way. We felt it was important for us to create a flavour-full but easy-drinking and approachable whisky that talks to the place it is made, like very few whiskies can”.
The innovative idea of adding wheat to Two-Fold mix has created a lighter style of whisky that allows the unique wine barrel cues to flow through. The liquid gold is matured in Melbourne’s reactive climate, leading to a beautifully balanced whisky. The rich complexities include a fresh tropical nose with hints of spiced vanilla, whilst the palate reveals apple, roasted pineapple, lightly toasted oak, and a soft tannic finish. Two-Fold proves to be an incredibly versatile sipping whisky perfect for any occasion; whether it’s neat by the fire, on the rocks or stirred into an Old Fashioned. Classic.
