Online fine wine merchant Magnum + Queens Wine will open its first retail store – an emporium of premium wine, drinks and accompaniments – at 274 – 278 Coventry Street, South Melbourne on Wednesday 6 June.
The Magnum + Queens Wine store will be a sommelier-curated experience, featuring over 700 individually-selected wines from Australia and around the world.
“We are in such an exciting era for wine. Our store will very much be a reflection of our online offering: a carefully-curated selection of the finest and most interesting wines from Australia and around the world,” says sommelier and co-founder Virginia Selleck.
“Expect a focus on new varietals, a range of old favourites like Burgundy and Pinot Noir, textural whites and food-friendly wines.”
While Magnum + Queens is known for its wine, the store will also showcase a range of premium spirits, craft beer and cider, as well as glassware, barware and complementary pantry items.
Unique aperitifs and digestives will be highlighted including Adelaide Hills Distillery’s Rosso Vermouth, Melbourne Moonshine’s Sour Mash Shine, Escubac, while beer and cider lovers will be sated with brews from Sample, Balter, Hitachino Nest, Custard & Co. and Bress. Seedlip distilled non-alcoholic spirits, Mister Bitters and StrangeLove mixers will quench the thirst of the alcohol-free contingent.
The Magnum + Queens Wine store – designed by the team at studio studio, led by Daniel Frigo and Karissa Marston – and built by BMF Construction, will feature greenery by botanical heroes Ivy Muse.
The Magnum + Queens Wine store will regularly hold wine tastings and food matching/pairing events.
Magnum + Queens Wine was founded in May 2017 by sommelier Virginia Selleck and Kirsten Dickie, showcasing a range of carefully-selected, quality wines from all over the globe, and with a focus on small, sustainable, craft producers. In January, M+Q also launched its own wine label with its first release Fiorire, a Yarra Valley Chardonnay Pinot Noir sparkling.
Magnum + Queens Wine offers monthly wine subscriptions in three, six or twelve packs which include tasting notes as well as suggested recipes and food matches. All wines can also be purchased individually. Customers are encouraged to sign up to their mailing list at: magnumandqueenswine.com.au for more.
The Magnum + Queens online store will expand its offering to coincide with the retail store opening.
