Without stopping there, Lisa also appears on her very own TV cooking show in the Caribbean, aptly titled ‘Galley Gourmet with Chef Lisa’. Over 8 seasons, Lisa takes viewers on a journey around the British Virgin Islands, whilst cooking with local chefs in a variety of kitchens – whether that be in the galley of a luxury yacht, a 5 star villa, or even Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island.
What is it about food that you love?
I love creating a meal for my clients, and then watching their reaction. Food makes you feel good, and there is nothing better than that look of delight on their faces.
Where did your passion for food, and the wider industry come from?
My passion for food started at a very young age. My family and I lived in Singapore for a few years, and we were lucky enough to have a live in chef, who had previously cooked for the Chinese High Commission. Every meal we were served was a work of art, and I think living in such a multicultural country introduced me to exotic dishes and delicious flavours from a really early age. Following on from that, my mother was inspired to experiment and once we returned to Australia, I spent lots of time in the kitchen observing her latest creations.
In terms of my passion for the wider industry, I’ve always loved food and being a chef, however working on board a yacht has so many advantages. First and foremost, you can tailor make a menu suited to your guests exact tastes and that can change for every charter. Also, you actually get to know the people you are cooking for, unlike in a restaurant environment for example. You also can’t go wrong when the view from your office is the islands and turquoise waters of the Caribbean, and having the ability to go for the odd snorkel in-between meal times.
