What it is about footy that you love?
I love the physicality, the freedom of the game. You’re not restricted where you can run.
Where did your passion for football come from?
I just grew up loving it. My parents are footy mad though so that definitely helps .
Tell us a little about juggling life an as AFLW player. What’s a regular day like for you (if such a thing exists)?
It’s challenging at times, but we’ve done it for so long so we just get on with it. I’m mostly just exhausted and that’s the biggest challenge. A day looks like a full day of work, training until 9.30pm and then repeat.
What’s it like being Captain of the North Melbourne Football Club at a time when AFLW is emerging and flourishing?
It’s an honour. I’m in a privileged position to play the game and captain a club with such rich history. It’s great that I can have some influence on the team and help out the younger players.
What advice would you have for girls and women wanting to break into a sporting career?
Have fun, whatever you do. If you don’t enjoy the sport, the work etc. you need to put in then you’re probably won’t be able to put the energy into it to continue to get better.
Where are your favourite places in Australia to travel to, eat at and enjoy?
Anywhere near the beach – there’s some ripping spots in Tasmania and South Australia that are less touristy. There’s plenty of great restaurants in Melbourne and way too many to choose from.
What does being Australian mean to you?
It means I’m privileged. I have a lot more opportunities than a lot of other people in other countries. I love the diversity of Australia and we should be continually embracing and celebrating it.
