After a long, cold, not-so-dry lockdown, a brand new weekly comedy showcase is here to revive the Melbourne Comedy Scene and it’s just what we needed.
Move over Dan, every week in the bandroom of The Worker’s Club, Fitzroy, big name TV comedians and some of Melbourne’s most exciting new talent will be taking over the microphone and filling the stand-up comedy shaped hole 2020 left in our hearts.
While us common folk spent majority of 2020 taking extra-long morning tea breaks from our home office (read: kitchen tables) to listen to Dan’s press conference, our funnier counterparts have been biding their time, waiting for their moment to shine.
Well, the time is nigh, my friends. Consider this show the ultimate post-lockdown therapy which will definitely get you giggling, nervously avoiding the front row and/or cry-laughing. Laugh it out with some of Australia’s best comedians and maximise your freedom with a little school night activity.
‘The New Normal’ showcase is a nod to the year that was and Dan Andrew’s iconic press conferences. The showcase aims to get comedians back on stage, mic in hand, while satisfying Melbourne’s comedy-starved audiences.
The show is held in the legendary bandroom at the back of The Worker’s Club and presented in three sections with a mixed bag of new talent to big household names and established comics. With a conveniently located bar and a couple of intervals throughout the show, you can easily stay well hydrated and/or boozy. Behind the scenes, special effort is made to ensure the line-up is diverse and inclusive and fun for all.
The doors open at 7:30pm, so you have plenty of time to grab a pub meal beforehand (v, gf friendly) and peruse their great selection of tap beer and wine.
