Have you ever wondered if the environment you live in is influencing your lifestyle? Or how the choices you make with colour can affect your mood? Did you know that the numbers linked to us can tell us the truth? Adopting simple techniques in all these areas can have a significant impact on the way you view yourself and your life.
Leading Feng Shui, colour and numerology specialist Chris Brazel can certainly tell you a thing or two about the space you live in, the significance of your birth date and what the colour of your underwear means. For years she has been teaching clients how to overcome obstacles through examining their living space, their use of colour and connecting them with their numbers. “I always teach my clients that you are a product of your environment. You create your environment subconsciously and your subconscious is a reflection of your moods, attitude and feelings,” she said. Combining Feng Shui, colours and numerology, according to Ms Brazel, “simply gives you a magic wand in your daily life.”
Ms Brazel firmly believes that your environment – whether it is at home or at work – cannot allow you to achieve your true potential if it is feeding you with negative energy. “Often we feel that we have no choice in life but Feng Shui allows you to have choice and to take action steps,” she said.
Creating balance and harmony in your life is what the basic principles of Feng Shui is all about. Every material object that surrounds you – be it furniture, pictures, colours, shoes and even your car keys, can reflect your emotions. Feng Shui can be applied in a practical and common sense way to encourage positive change in your life.
Colours can also play an important role in your day to day activities – even more so than you think! Ms Brazel says that every colour has an energy. So what you wear and the colours that you look at can have an impact on your mood. According to Ms Brazel, “colour gives you an ability to make the choices you want.” An easy way to decode colours is to remember that dark colours promote darker moods and that light colours promote lighter moods. Greys, blacks and browns are often associated with sad, depressed emotions while red permeates confidence and yellow encourages optimism. Move through a variety of colours in your clothes as a simple starting point in creating a positive change.
When it comes to numbers Ms Brazel puts it simply: “Numbers tell you the truth,” she said. Each number depicts a meaning and can reflect an energy specifically related to you. Ms Brazel believes that when numbers are decoded, they can often be confronting even if they have derived from a subconscious decision. “It’s so accurate with things that are taking place in your life,” she said. Your date of birth, phone numbers and house numbers are all significant in telling you something about the way you live your life and where you are headed.
Most of us lead very busy lives and have probably never thought about how we can fit the concept of creating harmony into our lifestyle. For the time-poor, there are simple and effective things that you can do to produce positive results. First and foremost, Ms Brazel recommends giving yourself some time out. “So many people are chasing money or status in this busy life. It takes no extra time to put on a coloured pair of undies or to remove that clutter from your fridge door,” she said.
For those who feel that there is barely a minute in the day to stop and relax, perhaps it’s time to do just that. It doesn’t require any extra effort to incorporate small changes and Feng Shui is about creating a balance between personal and professional life. “Some people are chasing things so much that they can’t obtain it and are creating obstacles for themselves in the process,” said Ms Brazel.
Ms Brazel suggests starting out with a quick fix of colour as a simple way to introduce positivity into our lives. “Have a look at your environment. Remove all the dulls and introduce some colour,” she said.
Green is great for promoting the feeling of growth and yellow encourages clarity, optimism and new ideas. While blue is often a popular colour choice, too much of it means you can drown in emotions. Use it sparingly.
Feeling stressed? Then start by removing elements in your environment that generate tense feelings. Eliminate whatever is sad in your space including sharp items, clutter and mess so that you can free the mind. When the mind is busy, reduce the patterns and take some time out. “When you have no energy is when there is no love within life,” said Ms Brazel. And this is when it is time to stop and assess whether you enjoy and even love what you’re doing with your life. Consider what your passion is. Check whether you’re chasing the right career path. And are you chasing all these things for the right reasons? “You will reach any goal you want to reach with alignment,” said Ms Brazel.
But sometimes it’s hard to feel positive and often things in this world work against me, you say? This is only your perception explains Ms Brazel. “You need to change the way you think because you only feel this way when you believe it. These types of people expect obstacles,” she said. According to Ms Brazel these people will often have a picture of a mountain as their screensaver to suggest hardship or the condition of their shoes and wallet will be tattered implying financial struggles. “Change will only happen when it is implemented and when you take a physical action. Feng Shui, colours and numerology all encourage this action,” she said.
For the month of April, it will be a time to take a practical and logical look at your life. It’s time to stop being stubborn about what you need to do. “It is important to focus on what you want to do otherwise being stubborn will stop you from getting there,” said Ms Brazel. The month won’t finish the way it started out and for some it could be a turbulent time. In your environment, it will be important to promote growth and change so remove any pictures around the house that you don’t particularly like. The colour for April is green encouraging growth, love and new ideas.
