Melbourne band JUNK! is set to release their debut album ‘Women’ at the Curtin Bandroom on Friday September the 10th in an explosion of glitter, LED light shows and theatrical cape-swishing.
The multi-talented line-up consists of some of Melbourne’s most seasoned and talented musicians, and is headed up by JUNK! composer and vocalist Glen Lloyd.
JUNK! is a merging of sequins, keytars, beat box solos and electro-rock. The universe of JUNK! is turned firmly towards the 1980s, where women, chicken soup, household budgeting and mushroom trips are all explored using MIDI controlled drum pads, foot pedals and a humble tambourine to create an hour of glitches, pops, sonic assaults and looming percussion. JUNK! is powerful, funny and slightly psychotic. Seeing JUNK! is not like seeing any other band – it is a piece of performance art.
‘Women’, consists of 18 original songs, all written and recorded in a secluded villa in Bali, Indonesia. Melbourne based Lloyd, a former audio engineer, spent years tinkering with sounds and beats before moving to Bali to work full time on his music. He then wrote, recorded and mixed every song on ‘Women’ on his lonesome, spending months in a dark room with three computers, a thumb-piano and a lot of coffee. The result is something personal, powerful and a little bit strange – ‘Women’ is about lost loves, independence, growing up and evil homicidal monkeys from the Sub-Continent.
JUNK! was a featured artist on TRIPLE J Unearthed and has been steadily performing around Melbourne since 2009.
JUNK! will be supported by local bands Feedback Dancer and Caractacus.
