The 2014 Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival started with a bang on Monday, with the David Jones Opening Runway showcasing collections from the likes of Alice McCall, Bec and Bridge, Camilla, Dion Lee, Jack + Jack, Love, Michael Lo Sordo, Nicholas and Nicola Finetti. The show featured a vast array of current trends from bold prints and ladylike dressing to gorgeous lace and leather anywhere. Striking cobalt coloured pieces demanded attention at Bianca Spender and Ginger and Smart, paired with different shades of blue and fiery red. It was an all white affair at Jac + Jack, with cozy knits and relaxed jersey tops and pants that leave no excuse for trackies to ever be worn again. Bold graphic prints stole the show for Bec and Bridge, Dion Lee and particularly Michael Lo Sordo, who’s rich and exotic butterfly effect fall print can also be seen on Lavazza coffee cups throughout the festival.
Come nighttime, don the seductive lace of Lover or dare to bare in the wispy black sheer dresses of Thurley. For men, there’s the stylish urbanwear of Calibre and Industrie, the achingly cool threads (including triple denim!) from Zanerobe or the statement making and quirky coloured suit pairings of Jack London – we love the leather pants!
