As Marilyn Monroe once said, ‘Give a girl the right pair of shoes and she can conquer the world.’ Are yours a platform, wedge or stiletto? Animal print, silver sparkles or the classic black pump? Whatever your preference, after Wittner’s Melbourne Spring Fashion Week Runway, I’m pretty sure I can tell you where you’ll find them.
The free runway presented current and upcoming styles from Wittner, complete with disco balls, African drums and Beyonce’s ‘Run the World’ – (how fitting!) There were no model pouts here – more of a performance than a traditional style runway, the shoes remained the focus through the clever use of props and high-energy choreography.
The runway showcased Wittner’s three key trends for the upcoming seasons – Black and White, Animalistic and Metallics.
Black and White
Monochrome really isn’t going anywhere, so embrace black, white or both at once.
The ‘Saintly’ lizard print leather heels come in black and white and are the perfect shoes to take you straight from the office to the cocktail bar, with the classic black pump getting modernised with a thick ankle strap and buckle for ‘Simona’. ‘Milled’ ticks all the boxes, with its monochrome toe and ankle strap and chunky heel. The lower heeled, elegant ‘Raizer’ sports an eye catching black and white design, while the black patent ‘Cannon’ is my pick for a chunkier, edgier look. One pair of shoes in particular kept popping up – ‘Maxi’ was spotted on almost every runway show throughout the week, no doubt due to its multi-textured sporty futuristic look.
Animalistic
Camel, leopard and touches of wood are the key elements of this trend. The pairing of black and brown is no longer a faux pas when it’s combined with chunky, modern shapes.
Like it’s monochrome sister, ‘Milled’ also comes in a black/camel combination that’s bang on trend and would look great on long tanned legs during summer. ‘Young’ is a fresh looking open toe white lace boot and low wooden heel, while the black leather ‘Custo’ sits atop a higher wooden wedge. The perfect summer boot arrives in store this week in the form of ‘Robertoz’, a tan leather open toe and heel bootie with black detailing.
Metallics
Get on your dancing shoes, it’s time to shine! The shinier the better for the metallic trend – choose from strappy heeled sandals or lower chunky heels.
Go waltzing with ‘Matilda”, the ultimate party slingbacks in silver or opt for the ‘Marzie’ metallic strappy heeled sandals. For a statement silver shoe, look no further than the slim v-shaped heeled ‘Topper’ with the perfect toe point.
Parting Lesson: What the Wittner Runway taught us
No matter what the colour or the pattern, chunkier heels and ankle straps are the defining characteristics of this season. Step up, strap up and strut your stuff!
