Botanical metamorphoses were the theme for Toni Maticevski’s RTW 2014 collection, mixing elements of femininity and delicacy with the artificial, in an exploration into the manipulation of natural beauty.
The pieces themselves blossomed, morphing from soft pinks and creams with delicate embellishment, to the monochromatic, three-dimensional and textural, before the final stage of vibrant neon orange ensembles. This transition was echoed in the finale, as the models walked out with flowers in their mouths, getting progressively larger with each girl.
Intricate pleating, gathering and billowing skirts were a plenty, as the models sashayed down the clever three aisle runway. The gorgeous feminine shapes that Maticevski is so admired for continued this season, with delicate strapless dresses and voluminous midi skirts in black and white floral prints, paired with boxy neoprene jumpers and mesh crop tops. Other dresses hugged the body, with woven cut outs accentuated by contrasting white piping.
For those who prefer pants, Maticevski also offered up some striking options. A printed corset top with long panels at the front and back made a dramatic impact paired with matching trousers, while the scuba orange neon crop top and pant set the cameras flashing from all rows.
Another collection done, and further proof that Maticevski’s understanding of the feminine form, desirability and talent is only on the up.
