In Australia, the wedding season goes from September through to May, which means that we’re headed right into the start of it all.
According to Esther Labi, AKA the Bra Whisperer, contemporary wedding dresses are moving away from the traditional look resulting in a need for more versatile and creative lingerie.
“The 2022-2023 wedding season is going to be very exciting. For the past two years, due to lockdowns, we have had fewer weddings, but this year, we are expecting couples who have had to postpone their wedding due to COVID, will be throwing more at their weddings in the way of glitz and glamour to make up for lost time,” Ms Labi said.
“Dresses are going to be more creative and full of drama as brides finally celebrate their special day. Wedding lingerie is also going to be more extravagant too.”
Esther Labi is the founder of Storm in a D Cup. As Australia’s leading online retailer of lingerie and swim wear for women of all sizes, as well as a highly successful physical store in Sydney, Storm in a D Cup has become the go-to store for women all over the country. Labi and her team have years of experience in the industry and share the importance of matching the right bra to the dream wedding dress.
Labi has outlined the wedding lingerie trends for the 2022 and 2023 season.
Impressive bridal corset bras
“Bridal corset bras are definitely back in fashion this wedding season. While dresses are flamboyant there will be a mix of edgy and traditional designs complemented by super-sized features, classic white fabrics and interesting elements such as square necks,” Ms Labi said.
“A bridal corset is the most traditional choice for brides because it’s an all in one bra. It gives you perfect sculpting, shaping and slimming effects. It is also a bra that suits a broad range of different styles and designs of wedding dress. So for this reason it is going to be very popular this season.”
Stunning garters
“Garters are making a come-back and brides are using not one but two for their special day,” Ms Labi said.
“Brides are selecting show garters for their partner to take off at the ceremony and then keeping a more luxurious sexy set for later on that night.”
Classic balcony and half cut bras
“Balcony bras are always a solid favourite for wedding lingerie as they are both structured yet supportive through the centre front. They lift the bust from the bottom of the cups, so you get a nice fullness to your bust,” Ms Labi said.
“People often ask me what’s the difference between a balcony bra and a full cup bra. The answer to that is simply that the balcony style covers half your breast while the full cup covers it entirely, so it really depends on what style of dress you’ve chosen; if you have a dress that’s lower cut then you can’t pick a full cup and will have to go with a balcony bra.
“Half cup bras and balcony bras are pretty similar. The main difference is that the balcony bra pushes the boobs up to the balcony and creates a more sweetheart line, whereas the half cup bra is a more square shape in structure. So your dress neckline will have a say in which bra you decide to wear. With more square necklines in fashion, square cup bras will be very popular.”
Impressive plunge bras
“We are going to see a lot of drama and plunging low cut dresses this season so the plunge bra is perfect,” Ms Labi added.
“The plunge bra is super low cut at the centre, so if you’ve chosen a dress with a deep V plunge in the front, the plunge bra will give you the support you need while still being discreet. The plunge bra gives the illusion of a bigger bust because it pushes the breasts together, creating a deep line of cleavage. You’ll have a super sexy yet natural look.”
Fancy bridal teddys
“Bridal teddys are not your average teddy. They are much more pretty, sexy and fancy than standard teddys,” Ms Labi added.
“They are easy to slip into and are ideal to wear under a reception party dress or on your special night.”
Eloquent smooth cup bras
“We are also going to see soft flowing dresses this season that move gracefully with brides as they walk and dance,” Ms Labi explained.
“Smooth cup bras will be your top pick if you’ve got a very soft and sleek sort of wedding dress. You won’t want to wear a lacy bra under those types of wedding dresses! Bridal bras are made with exquisite high quality fabrics, some are even made with silks and satins! Imagine how luxurious that will feel next to your skin all day long, adding to the mood of romance and glamour.”
Flexible strapless/ multiway bras
“With many weddings happening in the warmer months, many bridal gowns will be off the shoulder, so you’ll want to choose a strapless bra, which is super functional because the straps can be attached in different configurations,” Ms Labi added.
“Another top bridal tip I have to share is that increasingly, brides are choosing to have not one, but two dresses and we are going to see a lot of this, this season. Usually, brides wear a more formal dress for their ceremony during the day and then change into a more fun versatile dress for their reception. If this is the you, then a strapless/multiway bra is the perfect solution!”
Sexy body suits
“COVID kilos are a thing and many brides will be opting for a body suit this season,” Ms Labi added.
“The body suit is what I call an all in one suit and it’s for the bride who wants everything to stay in place all day long. You’ll never have a problem of a bra strap riding up your back or anything slipping out of place when you have a body suit on.”
According to Labi, your wedding day should be one of the most important days of your life.
“As fun and exciting as your wedding day will be, it is also going to be a very long one. Having the right support and being comfortable should be a priority. Trust me, if you’re wearing an ill-fitting bra on your wedding day, that irritating pain is going to nag at you all day long, which is not something you want on the happiest day of your life! It is important to get it right,” Labi said.
