It’s no secret that I’m incredibly passionate about supporting Australian talent – after all, that’s what Onya Magazine celebrates and promotes. We’ve been committed, since our launch on June 1st, 2009, to supporting, profiling and encouraging Australian talent – from the arts to fashion, beauty to sports, food to film, and everything in between.
So it’s kind of fitting that tomorrow, on June 1st, 2011, exactly two years after Onya’s launch, Porter Novelli Melbourne will launch jack + bill – a pop-up public relations agency committed to identifying and representing emerging Australian fashion, jewellery and accessories design talent.
Porter Novelli Melbourne is part of Australia’s largest and most successful group of communications companies, and they are also Victoria’s longest standing PR agency. After seizing inspiration from the incredibly successful jack + bill New York model, Porter Novelli Melbourne decided to launch jack + bill Australia.
This exciting project, named after the agency’s entrepreneurial founders Jack Porter and Bill Novelli, will turn the traditional pitch process on its head and hold an open casting call for emerging fashion, jewellery and design talent to showcase their portfolio to the jack + bill judging panel. Up to three clients will be selected and offered up to $30,000 worth of PR representation for three months, entirely free of charge.
jack + bill will create a huge opportunity for emerging Australian design talent – not only to be represented by the best in Australian PR, but also to come together and be recognised on a day that is all about celebrating the amazing talent this country is so well known for.
The open casting call will be operated on a first in, best-dressed basis. The judging panel, which I am thrilled to be a part of, will be judging applicants on Saturday the 30th of July from 10am – 5pm at 1000 Pound Bend, 361 Little Lonsdale Street, Melbourne (entry via Heape Court). A completed application form, which can be downloaded from www.jackandbill.com.au, along with a portfolio or look book will be required for casting.
Onya Magazine is proud to support this incredible initiative and I look forward to meeting the designers and creative talent behind the next big thing in fashion and jewellery in Australia.
