It’s A Wrap! How To Rock This Season’s Hottest Neck Candy

velvet wrap choker

The 90s: an era of Kate Moss, Clueless and the Spice Girls. A time where fashion was meant to stay and die. But with the decade taking on a slightly more sophisticated, grown up style and making it’s mighty comeback last year, we’re not sick of throwing back to the beloved 90s just yet. With the era’s go-to styles making a resurgence in the form of slip dresses, denim jackets and flannel shirts, it was only a matter of time before the choker made it’s big debut for the second time in 20-odd years. Having taken a mainstream route to the forefront of everybody’s daily wardrobe routines, there’s no escaping the cult classic. If you’ve not yet given in to buying this season’s hottest neck candy, here are the style rules to consider before taking the plunge!

Studded Choker

Unleashing your inner grunge-chic circa 1992 has never been easier, than with an homage to the wild child scene itself. A thin black choker with gold or silver studs will add lashings of badass street cred to an everyday outfit. Pair it with ripped black jeans, an oversized boyfriend shirt and boots, for a fierce ‘n’ fearless day look.

DO: Be brave and pair with a black evening dress.

DON’T: Wear with animal print, even if you are feline it.

Bandana

Long gone are the days of wearing a bandana over corn-rows a la Destiny’s Child. Taking an ultra-stylish upgrade, the bandana is now a must-have for your wardrobe, with it’s ability to turn even the most mundane of outfits into something with extra cool factor. Try a bold red with a paisley print to give a pop of colour to your all-black or white outfit.

DO: Change the thickness to create a variation of styles.

DON’T: Clash too many prints, let the bandana do the talking.

Silk Wrap Tie

Taking a cue from the 90s silk slip dresses courtesy of original supermodels Christy Turlington and Kate Moss, the silk-effect has transcended into other forms, now playing a huge role in accessorising. Long silk ties are an effortless staple piece for adding a timeless and classy edge to your ensemble. Whether you’re heading out for brunch or dinner and drinks, the silk wrap tie works effortlessly to create a contemporary look.

DO: Let the tie drop down your back for longline movement and shape.

DON’T: Tie into a bow – you’re not eight-years-old anymore.

Velvet Choker

Velvet can be your best friend if worn right. This subtle added texture will give depth to your outfit, as well as a bucket-load of 90s-nostalgia. Pairing your favourite denim jacket with a velvet choker will bring back memories of yester-year, not to mention the ultimate grunge-glam look for getting weekend-ready.

DO: Add a small charm.

DON’T: Add a large pendant – less is always more.

Wrap Bolo

The wrap bolo has evolved from it’s wayward, hippie-infused style and has developed into something much more fashion-forward. Not only is the wrap bolo a favourite at festivals, but it works on an everyday level too. This season’s off-the-shoulder top goes hand-in-hand with the accessory, making this combination a match-made in heaven.

DO: Layer with delicate thin chains.

DON’T: Wear with high-cut or high-neck tops.
